Future-proofing your production needs with 2x AMR fleet map capacity

Manufacturers need automation that delivers value beyond initial deployment, supporting ongoing gains in efficiency, safety, and cost as production needs evolve.
With our latest release, manufacturers can now manage up to 2 million square feet on a single autonomous mobile robot (AMR) fleet map, doubling the previous capacity while ensuring the map file size is 10 times smaller. This gives large and growing facilities more flexibility to expand AMR workflows into new production areas, optimize traffic flow, and scale operations seamlessly.
The hidden complexity behind large-scale production sites
Modern manufacturing plants are massive, high-throughput environments, especially in the automotive industry. In fact, traditional automotive manufacturing plants in North America are, on average, between 1.5M and 5.0M square feet.
800K to 1M sq. ft.
For an automotive paint shop
1M to 1.2M sq. ft.
For an automotive body shop
1 to 1.5 miles
For an automotive trim/chassis/final line
In facilities of that scale, every route, handoff, and delay matters.
Growth adds another layer of complexity. Over 85% of expansions happen inside existing buildings, where manufacturers are asked to increase output without increasing their footprint. That often results in:
- Space-constrained material flows
- Mixed manual and automated traffic
- Greater pressure on internal logistics and routing flexibility
For manufacturers scaling automation, AMR software needs to adapt and grow just as quickly as the production around it.
Introducing a 2M square foot map size for simplified fleet scalability
To help manufacturers scale seamlessly, OTTO continues to evolve its software to support the reality of modern production environments. In our latest release, the fleet map size has been expanded from 1 million to 2 million square feet, enabling even some of the largest facilities to operate on a single, unified map. With double the map capacity, manufacturers can:
- Expand AMR workflows into new production areas
- Open additional navigation zones for more dynamic routing
- Optimize layouts to better match real-time production flow
- Future-proof operations as new lines and processes are added
The increased map size removes artificial layout constraints and makes it easier to align AMR workflows with real production flow as facilities scale and adapt.
